Gursonia Clair
Manager, Data Engineering
Sonia studied Biomedical Science before completing a master’s in Drug Discovery Chemistry, and it was the analytical side of that work that pulled her toward data. She joined Kubrick’s data engineering cohort straight after university and hasn’t looked back.
Now a Data Engineering Manager based in New York, Sonia works across the aviation and insurance sectors, leading delivery of client solutions from discovery and scoping through to technical architecture. She remains hands-on, writing code and building alongside her team. Her work in aviation has included maintenance planning solutions for airlines, and she was recognised as a Woman in Aviation by Metropolitan Airport News earlier this year. While data engineering is her core, she’s equally drawn to the machine learning and AI side of the work.
Sonia is the oldest of five sisters, and being someone they can look up to is a real part of what drives her. That works in both directions: just as she wants to be a role model to more junior colleagues, she looks to senior people around her for guidance on her own progression. It’s why community matters to her - she mentors junior consultants on projects, line manages within her team, and is a member of Elevate, Kubrick’s women and non-binary network. She also runs the company soccer club, with the specific aim of getting more women involved in co-ed sport, because community is built as much on the pitch as in the office.
